In early 2024, the West New Britain Provincial Government approved its K377 million annual budget, a plan that was formalised during a provincial assembly meeting on February 9.

Designed with a focus on economic stability and growth, the budget features major contributions from national grants (approximately K284 million), supplemented by K93 million in locally generated revenue, and a further K99 million from unspent funds carried over from 2023.

Prime Minister James Marape praised the budget, citing its role in showcasing West New Britain’s growing financial self-reliance and its standing as a key contributor to the national economy.
