The Office of the Governor (Hon. Sasindran Muthuvel)

Greetings people of West New Britain and Papua New Guinea wherever you are in the country visiting our website. During my tenure as Governor for West New Britain from 2007-present I have encompassed my plans and visions in the scope of leveraging the fair distribution of government services throughout West New Britain so that no one is left behind in the grand scale of development and service delivery.

Hence my motto has always been “Reaching the Unreached and Touching the Untouched” speaks that reality in the sense that most of our people reside in remote and isolated areas of West New Britain that are in desperate need of government services but are unable to have access to due to geographical and communication challenges. Almost 50-60% of the West New Britain populace live in disadvantaged communities in which targeting development in those areas is highly significant in the development of the province as a whole.

Kandrian Gloucester District is the largest district in West New Britain with a landmass totaling almost half the province and its people are scattered making service delivery and accessibility a challenge. Their mountains, geographical locations and low population density are the main factors contributing to poor accessibility to government services. Thats why key areas in the district have outstations where government services can be easily accessed and communicated to the people. Since most of these areas are rugged terrain connected by roads, 4-wheeled drives and big trucks are the only means of transport. Thats why links roads and highways are also a major factor that have hindered development in these areas.

Apart from the inland areas, we also have island areas that are separated by sea and only means of transport is via boats or small-medium sized vessels. Most of these island communities are dense due to land shortage and population increase. These areas can be found in the outer banks of west new britain where some areas require to be airlifted to health facilities.

From these challenges my people have faced I have layed out several programs to help bridge this gap between service delivery and the people of West New Britain:
