
Standing on the veranda of my late grandfather’s house on Rambutso Island, gazing out at the hues of brilliant blues, was the highlight of my mornings. Beneath Pa’pau (Grandfather’s) Palek’s stilt house, fish and other marine life swam freely, a living reef of colour and movement. He would always say: “Don’t catch them. They’re the flowers that beautify my home on the sea.”
