Talasea District is one of the administrative districts of West New Britain Province, situated along the northern coastline and extending inland through fertile plains and volcanic terrain. The district was formally established in 2012, following national administrative restructuring aimed at strengthening service delivery and local governance. Created from parts of the former Nakanai administrative area, Talasea was designed to bring government services closer to its growing communities.
The district is characterized by rich natural resources, productive agricultural land, and vibrant coastal settlements. Its geography — shaped by volcanic history — provides fertile soils that support both subsistence and commercial farming, forming the backbone of local livelihoods.
