
THE Basketball Federation of PNG presented jerseys ahead to its 3×3 (U23) squad that left for the Pacific Mini Games in Palau yesterday at the Taurama Aquatic Indoor Courts.
BFPNG Executive Officer Robin Nema Ugupame encouraged the athletes to go out and represent PNG as the federation and the country are behind them.
“We have trust in you and to those that have worked tirelessly to get you here, today is your turn, to go and play.”
He added that, “You all go and win those games and medals and we have Gabriel Elavo who is coaching the team, we have trust in you and the players.”
Senior 3×3 player Moses Lune congratulated the final eight, “To earn a spot on the national team is not easy, you have to sacrifice and work hard.”
Lune encouraged them to go and set a benchmark for others to follow and make a podium finish.
President David Peter told the final squad to be selected in a large pool means they are the best there is, “so go out and do your best.”
Peter also extended his congratulation to Gabriel Elavo (coach), “to step into the role for 3×3 is a new role and he is starting to find his foot in the role.”
He extended his thank you to the families of the athletes and everyone behind the scene who have shown support. Apart from being presented with jersey’s, Kuti Sox came on board with socks for the athletes to take with them. Morea Elavo Jr was named as the men’s skipper, while Jackie Asiba took the honours for the women’s team.
